Financial Planning Series Part 2: 5 Important Areas of Life – Striking the Balance

Strike the balance by planning your life activities using the grid.
In Part 1 of the Financial Planning Series, we walked you through how to create the life you’ve been dreaming of through a vision board – a powerful tool you can use to achieve your goals. Do you actually know that Brother Bo Sanchez reads his goals drafted in a paper everyday? And when George W. Bush was in his senior years in college, he said he envisioned himself as president of the United States of America. Jim Carrey wrote himself a $10 million check amounting to the fee he wanted to get for “acting services rendered” post-dated it and kept it in his wallet. In Part 2 of this series, we now direct you to this 5 layer grid – which I call the Balanced Grid.
Take a look at the grid above.
Here you find 5 areas you want to strike balance on – remember, it’s not all about the money. Life is more than the dollar or peso you earn everyday. There’s just so much more to life you need to stretch the possibilities!
Work on the following areas of your life:
  • Spiritual
  • Physical
  • Family
  • Study / Work
  • Financial

I admit that sometimes, I also fall into the trap of focusing on only one or two areas of my life – work and finances. Sometimes, I fail to give more time to my family and friends. Sometimes, I also miss eating healthy food and binge on any junk food I see at stores near the office. Writing down my plans helps me recall the activities better and motivate me to monitor the progress everyday. The more specific the goals are, the better.
