Alvin Gamboa on Very Inspiring Pinoys (VIP) Series

He is one of the people I’ve met at Kerygma.

And he is one inspiring person who believes that to be a brother’s keeper, you are to be financially responsible.

I like it when he mentioned that his inspiration in this financial freedom journey is the Lord and his family.

Read the story of Alvin Gamboa and how devoted he is towards this commitment.

1. How did you start investing?

It all started after finishing the February series of The Feast PICC last February 2011. That was our (me and my wife) second month attending the Feast, and that series really struck hard on me. After that me and my wife attended the How to make millions in the stock market seminar of Bro. Bo, then bought his financial books, attended his Financial coaching seminar. That series of events jumpstarted our life in investing.

2. Who/what inspires you to invest?

– Bro. Bo Sanchez : he just keeps everything as simple as possible, so that we could focus on other things that we want to do.

– IMG Financial coaches : living below their means, practicing what they preach, and spreading financial education.

– moneylifeblood blog : Sis Krissy’s background of being a banker, which helps me to boost my confidence that I can also succeed in my investments even if I am part of the banking industry, which does not really give very high salaries (unless you belong to the management level)

– my wife and 3 sons : they will continue to inspire me to invest regularly so that we could reach our goals in the future and live a very happy life and of course,

– The Lord: His teachings on how to use money, how to be your own brother’s keeper, caring for the poor and the elderly, this things will add inspiration on my quest to become financially free, and to be able to share to them the blessings of The Lord.

3. What are your biggest and greatest learnings so far?

That time is the biggest ally in investment.
That there are two IF’s in life, and how to protect ourselves from that.
That getting a mentor and a support group in all aspects of your life, be it spiritual, financial, health etc.

4. What would you suggest to an ordinary Filipino who has never started saving up or investing?

That is is really possible to save and invest, even just small amounts. That at the start, it’s not about how much you can earn from your investments, but rather it is developing your habit of saving and investing, so that in negative situations, like the correcting of the market, you can still continue to invest.

And try to always look and analyze your cashflow, that sometimes having a negative cashflow can just be attributed to having bad habits in spending.

5. How do you see yourself in this journey 10 to 20 years from now?

My investments would be growing, me and my wife still learning from different financial mentors, becoming full time in being financial advocates and educators. And retiring early from work, not because I was fired or was forced to do so, but it is brought about by my own choice so that I could enjoy my retirement years and do the things that would really make me happy.

To Mr. Alvin Gamboa – thank you so much for being a Very Inspiring Pinoy!
