Colonel Sanders in his sixties was traveling across America cooking Kentucky Fried Chicken from restaurant to restaurant, accepting rejects. Ray Kroc was sick with diabetes and arthritis at age of 52 when he dreamed of McDonald’s.

Dropped by one of my birthplaces yesterday (a. bookstore b. beach c. airport) and bought books (now answer is a) for leisure reading (while my trainmates at MRT have no idea what I am reading about). I happened to grab a book “Rich For Life” by Dennis Sy (how come I didn’t get the memo? He’s such a great storyteller) and realized the difference between getting rich vs becoming rich. That this world has limited view of wealth – it’s not just money, but relationships, health, kids, and eternal rewards.

As you move along your financial journey, it’s quite the normal to feel a struggle in you. You feel a little spaced out by your friends who “think” of you differently now – oh he’s into stocks, he’s into business.. his Facebook wall is full of monies and money and moolah. Office has now branded you as “mykuripotgurl” who keeps a pink caramel piggy bank (mine’s Hello Kitty) and sometimes skips those lunches at oh-i-saw-the-nice-review of Relish Makati. In your head you play the words in the Frost poem “I took the road less traveled by and that made all the difference.”

You fall, you stumble, make mistakes = Get up, try again, again and again.

Ridiculed, talked about, “boxed in” = Keep moving, focus on your goal, ignore

Friends, every single step we take is a baby step towards success. Go try that bike zip line and you realize that it looks like a straight line from afar, but it can too be a little rocky in the sky. And you can release your hands from the bike and trust those harness to protect. People will tell you it’s impossible. Age could have limited Colonel Sanders and Ray Kroc. And your fears, yourself could have stopped you. That 22-second bike zip line could mean five years, or 2 decades, or life-long journey towards achieving your goal. And that harness is Big Guy above.

I just want to end this note with a story, telling us that we are ought to live. Don’t forget to live. Rick Belluzo, the guy behind Quantum Corporation, Microsoft and HP agreed with some Japanese partners on a certain volume targets to catapult HP to industry lead. Sales forecast, however, failed to deliver. So he negotiated with his partners to lower volumes. The Japanese partners said “Belluzo-san, one more thing. We need you to travel to our factory in central Japan and meet with our team and all of our suppliers and accept your failure.” Thinking it was a joke, he traveled to Japan and never would he forget what he saw. Thousands of people in rural central Japan community who signed up for his earlier committed volume. That as you achieve your goals, realize what it could do to impact lives and communities.

Friends, move towards our goals, but don’t forget to live. Have you tried juicing of SuperFoodGrocer? Soo yummy you’ll crave for another cup from your Oster. Girls, how about taking the online test “Which Disney Princess Are You?” I’m Pocahontas *^^* (Description: Adventurous, spiritual, and wise, always on the move. You feel at home in the wild and are always up for challenge). And this got me singing “Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?” Listen to Tully on Tully songs, sit in a park, play with Piattos chips. Or why not just stop and listen to those blind musicians at train stations.

Wayback college, I spent my time stargazing and treehugging. Fast forward years now, I could say financially I’m OK, but I still go back to those days I just say “hi” to the trees and the stars. Sometimes I ask myself if I’m better off now that I have more money, than I was before as a student. But I felt like I was happy even when I had no money – because I was able to hug these huge trees and smile at those cute little stars.

Just live. Just breathe.
